Does your faith begin and end on Sundays?
It's a provocative question that I thought of in a meeting this week.
Do you dress up on Sunday to please men or please the Lord?
Do you sing on Sunday to please those around you or to please the Lord?
Do you know God or just know of Him?
As true Christians, we need to think about these things. Oftentimes so called "Christians" play church. Is this you? Do you walk in the door saying, "Praise Jesus!" and leave thinking, "Man, finally! Now i can get back to being who I'm comfortable being?" Do you find it hard to "act" like a christian when not at church?
Some of the early churches that Paul writes to in Revelation don't even act like Christians at church. Now, after reading that statement, you may think, "well shoot, at least I'm not as bad as they were." Well, you're wrong. If you're "playing" church, then youre right there with them. In the letter to the church of Laodicea, God tells them that they are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. AND HE WANTS TO SPIT THEM OUT! If you don't carry your faith throughout your daily life, YOU ARE LUKEWARM! God does not like the taste, the aroma, the feel of your worship and praise. It plain stinks. He is disgusted by "lukewarm living." So you may be thinking, well how the heck do i carry this faith throughout my life?? Well, there is a wonderful tool for figuring out just that. God breathed these words out through men so we could know how to live.
The Bible is the place to look.
Proverbs gives us insight on many topics and is wise. All of the gospels give an account of Jesus's life (which we are supposed to model ours after). And the rest of the books do the same.
This means it is of utter importance to be in God's word.
Let me propose a question.
How many times to you read your Bible daily??
DAILY
Not every other day, not mondays, not just Sundays and Wednesdays.
DAILY
If you're not in the Word, how will you know how to live? If you don't know the word of God, how will you know who God is? Would you know your best friend if you never talked to them? Would they know you? Would you know what hurts them, what pains them, what makes them happy? The same goes for God. The only way to gain insight on God and His plan for you is to read the Bible and talk to Him. In other words, pray.
It is very easy for us to become complacent with where we are and what we are doing; and very easy to fall into "playing church." We can not allow ourselves to become that way. As my parents always say, "Remember who you are." and i might add, "Remember who you belong to."
God bless you.
In Christ,
Clint
